Surveyed and Surveyor

The Surveyor. © Knut Skjærven

“She has to survey everything she is and everything she does because how she appears to others, and ultimately how she appears to men, is of crucial importance for what is normally thought of as the success of her life. Her own sense of being in herself is supplanted by a sense of being appreciated as herself as herself by another.”

John Berger: Ways of Seeing, Pengiun Modern Classics.

  1. I like this photograph very much, Knut. A superbly captured and frozen moment. And I love the passage from John Berger – I read ‘Ways of Seeing’ many years ago (it seems to me) and found it illuminating and informative.

  2. Thanks Graham.

It is one of the best books on photograph that I have. I carry it with me on vacations since it is so easy to read.

Hmm, I am a bit behind updating this blog, I can see. Sorry about that. Things should happen on blogs :-). And it will. Soon.

    Have a good weekend.
